2026 CleanerGrid Competition -- 3rd Place
Decision-support dashboard for coordinating offshore wind faults and maintenance, built for the EirGrid CleanerGrid 2026 competition.

Introduction
Our team achieved 3rd place in EirGrid's 2026 CleanerGrid Competition and received a €3,000 prize in what was the most competitive year to date, with over 32 teams and participation from 9 different universities. This year's theme, "Opportunities and Challenges in Accelerating Offshore Wind Potential," challenged us to engage with one of the most important issues in Ireland's energy future. Our project focused on developing a prototype dashboard featuring a Decision Support System (DSS), alongside other functionalities to monitor the status of individual wind turbines and support the coordination of offshore wind turbine maintenance.
Highlights
- Proposed a decision-support platform that consolidates asset condition, fault severity, weather windows, vessel availability, repair timelines, and system security limits to reduce fragmented planning and accelerate outage decisions.
- Conducted early-stage research on HVDC outage coordination and operational constraints, and contributed risk modelling and the logistics/workflow structure for failure analysis and fault detection.
- Validated the approach through representative fault scenarios (export cable and turbine-cluster events), demonstrating that improved coordination can materially reduce outage exposure by aligning work to the earliest feasible access windows.
- Supported final deliverables through drone footage, voice-over recording, and authorship of the Results & Impacts section.
